Sources: Religious parties to call off protests after negotiations

After two days of violent protests and riots against the Supreme Court verdict in the Asia Bibi case, a Christian Woman who was on death roll since 2010, sources claim that religious parties including the Tehreek-e-Labaik Pakistan have agreed to call off their protests in return of two conditions.

The first of which is to put Asia Bibi’s name in the ECL, which would bar her from fleeing the country while the second one is to appeal in the Supreme Court for revisiting Asia Bibi’s blasphemy case.

Both of these clauses are a democratic right, but it would be interesting to note how this would affect Pakistan’s outlook on this issue that has already received much attention from the International media, with England, France, Spain and Italy having already offered Asia Bibi asylum from Pakistan.

Here is Theresa May, Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, who lauds Chief Justice Saqib Nisar on this landmark decision and offers support to Asia Bibi and her family.

If these sources are true, what sort of impact might this have on Pakistan’s international image? Is this the right way out of this situation? Let us know in the comments.
